Municipal 2023: in Siena, Massa and Pisa, the center-left attempts to reconquer the old strongholds

Siena, Massa, Pisa will be among the capital cities to vote on May 14th and 15th, those where political attention will also be concentrated at a national level. Historically governed by the centre-left, in the last electoral round of 2018 they surprisingly passed to the centre-right with Northern League traction. Now the Elly Schlein-led Pd will try to reconquer these former strongholds. The center-right, on this occasion under Fdi traction, has the task of maintaining these bastions.

Siena

In Siena in 2018 Louis DeMossi, an independent strongly desired by Matteo Salvini, led the center-right to victory. But this time the united breakfast will support the teacher Nicoletta Fabio, 61 years old, retired teacher, proposed by the FdI. Consummated the break with De Mossi, who will support Massimo Castagnini, also supported by Italia Viva.

Pd and left will support instead Anna Ferretti (chosen with the primaries), who linked his work experience to the world of volunteering, and who was part of the last center-left councils of Siena, with responsibility for social affairs and health. Nothing to do for the wide field hypothesis: Elena Boldrini will be the candidate of the M5s; while the former third pole will be divided in two: Robert Bozzi (Action) e Massimo Castagnini (supported by Italia viva - on the Third Polo Destination list - and the list of former mayor De Mossi) .

Pisa

Michael Contiof the League, after making history in 2018 by becoming the first center-right mayor of Pisa, will aim for an encore at the 2023 municipal elections, supported by the whole coalition.

Pisa is one of the six out of 17 capital municipalities in the vote where it was possible to create a Pd-M5S alliance (plus the left), in this case around Paul Martinelli, provincial president of ACLI. The third prong (Action and IV together) has long since formalized support for a Rita Mariotti.
