Migrants, “Mentoring” as a model of inclusion for young unaccompanied migrants: at the end of 2022 there were 20,089 and they are increasing

ROME – There were 20,089 unaccompanied foreign minors registered in Italy as of 31 December 2022: a sharp increase compared to 2021 (+64%) due to the humanitarian crisis that has affected Ukraine since February 2022. For young migrants who arrived alone in Italy, the transition to adulthood coincides with the proximate or imminent exit from the reception system and a condition of social vulnerability. For this reason the Mentoring – once again, a word in English that alludes to a training process in which a person, a mentor, helps, follows, guides and promotes the personal and professional development of another person – constitutes an effective model for supporting of social inclusion for unaccompanied 18-year-olds.

Effective inclusion paths. Refugees Welcome Italy And HAPAX Mentoring Foundation Thursday 25 May in Rome they present, from 10 at Modulo4, City of the Other Economy (Largo D. Frisullo in Rome) the report “Mentoring as a tool for social inclusion for young people with a migrant background” Experiences in Italy”. This is the first survey that summarizes the experiences of mentoring carried out in Italy in the last five years in order to support effective inclusion paths. During the work, the premises that led to the development of the projects, the definition and importance of the role of the mentor and the phases that constitute the mentoring relationships will be investigated and underlined, so as to have a reference map that can be an example for everyone who wants to use this method.
