ROME – There were 20,089 unaccompanied foreign minors registered in Italy as of 31 December 2022: a sharp increase compared to 2021 (+64%) due to the humanitarian crisis that has affected Ukraine since February 2022. For young migrants who arrived alone in Italy, the transition to adulthood coincides with the proximate or imminent exit from the reception system and a condition of social vulnerability. For this reason the Mentoring – once again, a word in English that alludes to a training process in which a person, a mentor, helps, follows, guides and promotes the personal and professional development of another person – constitutes an effective model for supporting of social inclusion for unaccompanied 18-year-olds.
