Mattarella in Kenya today on drought and climate: "We need growing commitment"

“We are seeing 'alarming' signs of climate change. We see "serious symptoms" such as drought leading to "serious consequences". This is why "we urge you to proceed decisively on the road to measures" to be taken to combat climate change".

This was stated by President Sergio Mattarella speaking from Nairobi where he met the President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto at the State House in Nairobi. And he then added: «I am honored to be here in Nairobi. Italy considers Kenya a virtuous example of democracy and a model of virtuous and sustainable growth. Relations between our two countries are excellent. We consider Kenya a partner of great importance for Italy».

And on migrants, the Head of State said: «An epochal phenomenon that cannot be tackled bilaterally: we seek collaboration with the countries of origin and transit, but it is a phenomenon of an epochal and growing dimension, it cannot be tackled bilaterally. We need a joint, lucid and well-organized European action».
