Mattarella and the global challenges of war and climate: "We need multilateralism for shared and lasting solutions"

We need to "project the Italian imagination into the world", be aware that "the soft power it has always represented the strength of Italy and the West". positive emphasis brought by ministers Gennaro Sangiuliano and Adolfo Urso at the conference by the Soft power club held at the Ara Pacis in Rome.

"The soft power Italian is to have a Capitol in Washington, one in India, designed by Le Corbusier, and others from Honolulu to Alaska as well. The practice of soft power and Italy's role in geopolitical changes pass through culture, cinema and creative businesses, industry and Made in Italy, fashion, agri-food. Sometimes we think of ourselves as a smaller nation than we are", he underlined Francis Rutelli, president of Soft Power Club, during the introduction to the conference. And he added: "I don't think there can be any solution to global and supranational challenges, let's think of climate change, without sharing the truth of the facts and without a functioning, effective multilateralism. But soft power expresses another concept, that of interest of nations, always within a desire for international collaboration".

In the message sent to the conference, the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella highlighted how "the contemporary global challenges, characterized by the unacceptable aggression of the Russian Federation towards Ukraine and by the sudden climate changes underway, require a constant and effective synergistic action between States and international organizations based on multilateral cooperation to reach shared solutions and lasting conditions that ensure peace and sustainable development".

For the Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano it is necessary "to project the Italian imagination into the world, to affirm one's identity". This is because "Italy enjoys a soft power very strong and one perceives a desire for Italy in the world and an exaltation of the Italian lifestyle. Identity - he concluded - is a fact that strengthens humanity and the task of the Ministry of Culture is to enhance, make the Italian imagination grow and make it visible in the world, in the awareness of Italy's greatness".

On Twitter, the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso wrote: "Soft power has always represented the strength of Italy and the West. Our culture, our values and our democratic institutions can promote sustainable development, in the Mediterranean and in the world, as an alternative to that proposed with the 'hard power by the regimes". And in his speech at the conference he recalled that he recalled that the soft power "it was born with the civilization of Rome, when Rome makes of its model such an attractive capacity that everyone can and wishes to become a citizen of Rome" and then grows with Christianity and proceeds with the Renaissance. "A large part of who we are and how we are perceived in the world is the result of these three civilizations: the Roman one, that of Christianity and the Renaissance which overlapped each other forging our nature that everyone recognizes us in the world ".
