ROME – Sled return to track by Marcell Jacobs. It won’t be on Sunday 28 May at the meeting in Rabat, as had been foreseen by his staff: the goal at this point is the Golden Gala on 2 June in Florence. Jacobs: ‘False support, but I’m fit’

“I’m forced to skip the 100m debut and the first confrontation of this year with Kerley in Rabat, which I cared about very much, due to a slight lumbar-sacral block that I plan to resolve as soon as possible” the sprinter commented. “It’s not an injury, it’s just the result of false support, which however prevents me from compete in Morocco. Technically I feel fit and ready to have a great season outdoors. The challenge is only postponed.”

Jacobs, sparks with rival Kerley: “Do you want to challenge me? Look, it ends like in Tokyo”. Bolt laughs: “The track gets hot”

The challenge postponed with Kerley

The meeting in Rabat would have been the first of the challenges awaiting Jacobs against his rival, the American Fred Kerley. Protagonist with the blue of a series of jokes from a distance that ignited a duel consumed not only on the track, but also in words. Jacobs won at the Tokyo Olympics beating Kerley, who made up for it a year later with gold at the World Championships in Eugene while the other was out due to injury. But Marcell also had his prize in 2022, going on to win the European Championships.

The indoor season has launched a new opponent for Jacobs, even in Casa Italia: Samuel Ceccarelli he beat him at the Absolutes and at the European Championships on the 60, and now there is curiosity about his performance passing on the 100. After the indoor Marcell has not chosen a dense program like last spring, an agenda full of commitments that has not succeeded to respect for a series of physical problems, prologue to the knockout at the World Cup. He preferred to make his debut late, with the prudence he is now putting into entering an outdoor season that will take him to the Budapest World Cup.
