Maccio Capatonda driving a bus for the WWF: “Choose public transport”

Maccio Capatonda again alongside the WWF in the fight against the climate crisis, which has now entered our daily life with already very serious consequences. Droughts, fires, extreme weather events, pollution and energy crises are the order of the day. If we don’t address the causes immediately – the human activities that cause the phenomenon – we risk disastrous consequences. But our individual daily actions also weigh: we must act first to free the world from CO emissions₂.

“We have to bring about a big change, and we can do this starting from our daily actions: the planet does not save itself – says Marcello Macchia, alias Maccio Capatonda -. Through this video, with the WWF, we would like to make people understand that the fight against climate change is cool and the contribution of each of us counts, more than you think. Individual choices are a strong tool for influencing economic and political decisions”. Because of this Saturday 25 March at 20.30 for theEarth Hour everyone – around the world – will be invited to make their voice heard for the climate by turning off the lights for an hour

“Choose public transport” but also car sharing, scooter, bike, electric car. “Ask with us for 100% electric public mobility”. These are some of the messages that the WWF has chosen to launch with Maccio, to represent a part of the many actions that can make a difference, such as using less and better water, reducing the consumption of meat and animal proteins, choosing local and seasonal, install electricity production systems from renewable sources, reuse, recycle, recover.

In short, we should learn to replace the abundance of useless things with many opportunities for human relationships and obviously continue to make our voice heard by always asking the institutions to make decisions that lead to saving the climate and people’s future.

“We can no longer hang on to the polluting fossil fuels that are ruining our climate and destroying the natural world we all depend on. According to the European Copernicus programme, the last eight years have been the hottest on record, with the summer of 2022 was the warmest on record in Europe; and the coming winter will be the second warmest. The Earth has already warmed by almost 1.2°C since the pre-industrial era. If we don’t act now to cut the greenhouse gas emissions, we will miss the crucial goal of limiting global warming to 1.5° C. A goal that concerns us a lot, because the Mediterranean is among the regions of the world most at risk – he explains Mariagrazia Midulla, Climate and Energy Manager of WWF Italy -. The energy crisis has shown us that changing course will not only help the climate: renewable sources and a more prudent use of energy will also give us independence and energy security, for example. Time is running out, we are guilty and seriously late. The strength of our daily choices is enormous and can force governments and the productive world to change. We can do it, the first step should be to obtain 100% electricity from renewable sources within ten years”.
