The mayor of Turin was among the first last year to interrupt registrations in the absence of a law. Al Foglio says: “Schlein is right to take to the streets, but we also have an obligation to arrive at a law. We must also try with this Parliament”

In March of last year, as mayor of Turin Stephen Lo Russo he was among the very first to suspend the registration of the children of same-parent couples. “I am very saddened,” he said. But first a ruling by the court of Turin, then by the Court of Appeal of the same Piedmontese capital, had convinced him that as a government official he could do nothing else, abandoning that register introduced by the grillina mayor Chiara Appendino in 2018. Now, after having seen the mayor of Milan Beppe Sala finding himself in the exact same condition, following the warning of the prefect, returns to ask that the problem be addressed at national level with a law, without wasting any more time. “Because it’s good to raise the political question, take to the streets. On this I agree with our secretary Elly Schlein. And yet we also have an obligation to obtain results in Parliament”, explains Lo Russo to Foglio. “We can also try in this legislature, with this majority. I think they are not so monolithic and I hope for general enlightenment, at least when it comes to protection for children“.
