In Fvg Fedriga is the announced winner. But the real challenge is the balance in the centre-right

Pd and M5s together with the entrepreneur Moretuzzo, but the polls do not leave much hope. The Northern League governor sees the reconfirmation and presents himself with his own list, as was the case for Zaia in 2020. While FdI tries to detach the League

The challenge for the Regionals in Friuli Venezia Giulia, scheduled between next Sunday and Monday, already has a winner announced, both in the polls and in the air that one breathes in public opinion, and it is the current president Massimiliano Fedriga, who in recent years has become one of the best known faces of the “territorial” League, which would thus see his mandate reconfirmed for another five years. The center-left’s attempt to undermine Fedriga is entrusted to Massimo Moretuzzo, entrepreneur and regional secretary of the Pact for Autonomies, supported by the Democratic Party and the 5-star Movement. While the “third way” of Action-Italy alive and +Europe sees in the field Alexander Maranformer deputy and senator for four legislatures.

If the chances of undermining the primacy of the centre-right in Fvg appear very low at the moment, this does not mean that the elections lack charm: above all if one looks at the effects at the national level. To confirm this, just look at the agenda for the next few days: today the new secretary of the Pd Elly Schlein is expected first in Trieste, then in Udine. Tomorrow it will be Giuseppe Conte’s turn in the Julian capital. And again tomorrow in Udine, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the leader of the Lega Matteo Salvini and the coordinator of Forza Italia, Antonio Tajani, will gather around Fedriga.

In fact, the most interesting game will probably be played right inside the centre-right. The uncertainty of the balance between the various parties is accentuated by the presence of an autonomous list of Fedriga, as it was at the time for Luca Zaia in Veneto. How it ended that time is well known: the Northern League governor’s list tripled the consensus of the Carroccio and quadrupled those of the Brothers of Italy. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since 2020, but the substance remains the same. The new real test will be whether, and by how much, Giorgia Meloni’s party will be able to cannibalize the consensus of the Lega and Forza Italia. Confirming, in the event of a striking result, a trend already very evident in the latest policies: in September, in Fvg Fratelli d’Italia it reached 31 percent, detaching the League by over twenty points.

Elly Schlein is a newcomer that doesn’t worry me, I don’t think the regional elections can be conditioned by her taking the field”, reassured Fedriga in an interview with Press. From Piazza della Borsa this afternoon the dem secretary will be able to answer him. And while the rumors and the bets multiply – the latest arrival is that of Salvini who predicts a victory “with at least double the votes of the competitors on the left” – the region awaits an outcome that has already been written, but not for this reason foreseeable in its consequences.
