Gp Liberazione, the race in Rome that has discovered so many champions

Rome is once again the capital of cycling with the 76th Liberation Grand Prix, a historic road cycling race included in the calendar of the UCI – International Cycling Union and the FCI – Italian Cycling Federation. Considered a real international classic of youth cycling and better known by the nickname of “Spring World Championship”, the race reserved for the Under 23s which over the years has consecrated great champions of professional cycling including Gianni Bugno, Matteo Trentin and Matthew Goss will be the protagonist again from 23rd to 25th April on the traditional route of the Baths of Caracalla. Many new features of this edition, organized for the third consecutive year by Terenzi Sport Eventi, including the establishment of the team title and the transition to the international category (1.1 MJ) of the Juniores men’s competition, which thus adds to the already international U23 and Women Elite.
The review, which together with the three main races also includes the men’s races in the Allievi and Esordienti categories, will host stands, meetings, exhibitions and numerous collateral events in the Caracalla area with the bicycle as the protagonist for audiences of all ages.

The Liberation Grand Prix is ​​one of the longest-running sporting events in the capital. From the first edition which was held on 25 April 1946 in a Rome still wounded by the rubble and tried by the mourning of the war, it also became the first international competition in Europe to host athletes from the East on the occasion of the 1960 Rome Olympic Games, when athletes from those countries were forbidden to jump in quality among professionals. Today the race is a heritage of world cycling, the most coveted by the best prospects on the planet and the most fascinating due to the deep load of history it preserves: a review that over the years has seen champions who have written the history of professionalism as Gianni Bugno, Matteo Trentin, Mattew Goss, Dimitry Konishev and Letizia Paternoster.

The Liberation Grand Prix, always held on 25 April from 1946 to 2018 and returning after two years of absence due to the pandemic from 2021 to today, has consolidated itself as the most important cycling event in the capital, the only one at competition in addition to the Giro d’Italia which will return to Rome this year, entering by right among the major sporting events of the city together with the Marathon, Formula E, the Global Champions Tour of horse riding and the International tennis tournaments.

New year, new edition. The 76th Grand Prix of the Liberation will be run in the wake of tradition while keeping the track and the starting and finishing area in Viale delle Terme di Caracalla unchanged, but the format will also feature two important innovations: the establishment of the team title for the Under 23 and the transition to the international category (1.1 MJ) of the Junior men’s competition, which thus adds to the already international U23 and Elite Women.

Great cycling but also culture, history, inclusion, education, well-being, fun and solidarity. From 23rd to 25th April, freedom and sport will come together in three unmissable days in which anyone – children, adults, families, the elderly and the disabled – will be able to approach the world of cycling thanks to the presence of a village set up inside the ring of the race circuit that will host stands, meetings, exhibitions and numerous side events to enhance everything that revolves around it: youth sport and its value system, physical activity in the open air, sustainable mobility, education road, the concepts of green city and sport city, cycle tourism and urban cycling.

The eagerly awaited “Kids Race-Liberazione Giovanissimi” rides for the little ones and the amateur “Bike4Fun – Pedalata del Dono e dei Donatori”, 10 km cycle tourism in the Municipality VII area and between the Baths of Caracalla and the Caffarella Park to support the mission of ANED – National Association of Hemodialysis Dialysis and Transplantation. in collaboration with AIDO and the Appia Antica Regional Park. Thanks to the collaboration with the MIM – Ministry of Education and Merit, the event will also promote a road safety education project dedicated to schools.
