the Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov with Time Shelter the winner ofInternational Booker Prize 2023. The novel, translated into English by Angela Rodel for Weidenfeld & Nicolson, won the prestigious British award for novels written in any language, translated into English and published in the United Kingdom or Ireland. An award that Gospodinov - the first Bulgarian-language author to receive - shares with the translator Angela Rodel.

in the translation of Giuseppe Dell'Agata and in 2021 he had won the European Witch. A fantastic fresco in which Gospodinov, considered the greatest living Bulgarian author, imagines the existence of past clinicsspecial buildings in which each floor reproduces in detail a decade of the last century, for the benefit of Alzheimer's patients and anyone who has lost their memory or struggles to deal with the present (as Vanni Santoni wrote in the review published in Reading #499 of June 20, 2021). I wanted to write a novel about monsters from the past, said the author.

Georgi Gospodinov's book was chosen by jury headed by the Franco-Moroccan writer Lela Slimani, among the six finalist novels. With Chrono-refuge: Boulder (And Other Stories) by Eva Baltasar (in Italy released by Nottetempo with the same title), translated by Julia Sanches from Catalan - another language which, like Bulgarian, had never been a Booker finalist -; The Gospel According to the New World (World Editions) by Maryse Cond, translated from the French by Richard Philcox, published by Giunti as The gospel of the new world; whale (Europa Editions) by Cheon Myeong-kwan, translated from Korean by Chi-Young Kim (coming in October for and/or); Standing heavy (MacLehose) by GauZ', translated from the French by Frank Wynne, released by Elliot as Standing places; Still Born (Fitzcarraldo) by Guadalupe Nettel, translated from the Spanish by Rosalind Harvey, published by La Nuova Frontiera as The only daughter.
