Feltri’s shameless tweet on the floods in Emilia-Romagna: “First they cry because it doesn’t rain, then because it rains too much and someone drowns”

“First they cry in despair because it doesn’t rain, then they cry in despair because it rains too much and someone drowns. But you can know what the hell they want”. They could be words written by any anonymous user on social media, a hater like there are many. And it would still make an impression. But, worse than the anonymous user or the bot, there is the long-time regional councilor and journalist who, by now, uses Twitter freely. It is Vittorio Feltri, who sits on the Lombardy regional council elected with the Brothers of Italy, who tweets, mid-morning, his thoughts on the people affected by the floods in Emilia Romagna, between death and devastation.

The reactions, under that tweet, tell of the disgust for those words, and it is not the first time that Feltri has used his social profile for comments that go beyond what is due. Only at the beginning of March had he commented on the shipwreck of the Cutro migrants, writing: “I remind non-EU citizens of an old Italian saying: leaving is a bit like dying. Stay at home”.

In the meantime, Nicola Di Marco, leader of the Movimento 5 Stelle in Lombardy, comments on today’s words: “Yesterday our group donated its attendance fee from regional councilors in favor of the flooded populations of Emilia-Romagna, inviting the Councilors of the other parties to do the same. Today the obscene response of the Councilor of the Brothers of Italy Vittorio Feltri arrived who, in the throes of one of his well-known attacks of verbal incontinence, tweeted: “first they cry in despair because it doesn’t rain, then they cry in despair because it rains too much and someone drowns. But you can know what the hell they want”. We await the immediate apologies of the group leader of the Brothers of Italy in the Lombardy Region, towards those who today shovel mud, mourn the dead and are forced to bear this too. After which it would be appropriate for Vittorio Feltri to resign from the role of Regional Councilor, so that his verbal incontinence does not continue to dirty this institution”.
