Elly Schlein, return-debut in Europe, close marking on Meloni and sprint in the polls

It will be a return after years as an MEP but also a “debut” as secretary of the Democratic Party at the PSE summit. Elly Schlein in Brussels where she today she will be at the pre-summit of European socialists in preparation for the European Council. The meeting will focus on the economic situation, the migration crisis and Ukraine. Themes on which the Democratic Party has also expressed its line in the resolutions presented in Parliament for the communications of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. With regard to migrants, it is requested that “every action be taken aimed at favoring the revision, in the short term, of the Pact on migration and asylum” for a common European policy in the “management of migratory flows” inspired “by the principles of solidarity and fair sharing of responsibility between the Member States, including financially”. Together with the reaffirmation of the “duty to welcome and protect human beings”. The Democratic Party is also pushing for the ecological transition and is asking the government to “take steps to tackle the transition to a zero-emission car market through the adoption of a European industrial strategy which provides for the allocation of adequate resources for conversion”. So Ukraine on which a greater European diplomatic effort is requested together with the confirmation of support for Kiev and “its right to self-defense”. Themes that Schlein will discuss in Brussels where she will meet, among other things, the president of the PSE, the former Swedish premier Stefan Löfven and other socialist leaders and prime ministers. Furthermore, the Pd secretary will meet the vice president of the European Commission Frans Timmermans, the commissioner Paolo Gentiloni. On the front of internal issues of the Democratic Party and therefore of the structures of the groups, in the European one the confirmation of the current group leader Brando Benifei who was a supporter of Stefano Bonaccini at the congress is not excluded.

Meanwhile, on the polls front, while FdI falls in consensus (-2.5%) reaching 28.6%, the Pd rises above 20% the PD, extending on the M5S, which is at 16.2%.
