Barcelona, struggling with a 200 million savings plan to meet the parameters imposed by La Liga, has decided to close Bara TV after 24 years of activity

TV boat born in an unhappy period for the Barcelona. It saw the light in 1999 but for the first trophy (after the big feast in the 90s with Johan Cruijff, Bobby Robson and van Gaal) had to wait until 2005. Ronaldinho, Messi and that's not all: from there he has told another 35 and will add the 36th in June, because La Liga is now a done deal (+11 from the blaugrana over second Real). But it will be the last cup for the broadcaster. The club announced in these hours the cancellation of the contract it had had since 2015 with Telefonica for Barca Tv, that from June 30 will no longer exist after 24 years of honorable career.

Employee strikes, then closure

Channel employees only learned of the decision in the very last few hours. Among them are 14 workers of the Coffin Studioswho are on the club's payroll. The rest, about 150 people, were paid by Telefnica but forced into increasingly precarious working conditions, so much so that several days of strike were called at some Barcelona matches until an agreement was reached in mid-February. At the moment the idea that Coffin Tv continue with the resources of Bara Studios but only in streaming on the internet and with many limitations as regards the coverage of the various sections and various events (to date 1,000 hours of content and more than 3,000 related videos).

The 200 million savings plan

But why the drastic decision to turn everything upside down? The club estimated losses at around 13 million, even if according to the employees it would be half (6). However, Barcelona continue to experience a financial deficit and are implementing a savings plan at all levels of 200 million euros to meet the parameters of La Liga.
