Amazon, a thousand permanent hires in the Jesi-Corriere.it hub

Amazon will open a new distribution center in Jesi, in the Marche region. It will be the eleventh site with these functions among the 60 in Italy, fifth in the Centre-South and first in the region. The foundation stone laying ceremony for the new mega hub, which should come into operation in 2025, took place on Wednesday 24 May. The e-commerce giant will invest 180 million euros in the logistics hub. The site will give work to a thousand people, with permanent contracts, within three years, Stefano Perego, vice president of Amazon North America, Europe & Global Operations explained to Ansa. «In Jesi – added Perego – the employees will work in a modern, safe and inclusive environment and will receive one of the most competitive salaries in the sector, with 1,713 euros of gross monthly salary for warehouse operators. Don’t forget Amazon’s goal of being carbon neutral by 2040. The new area of ​​work will be in reducing plastic and cardboard in packaging».

Urso: “Investment that creates jobs”

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso, the undersecretary Lucia Albano, the governor Francesco Acquaroli, the mayor Lorenzo Fiordelmondo and the president of Interporto Marche, Massimo Stronati. The creation of a new Amazon hub in Jesi is «important for digitization, e-commerce, and at the same time an investment that creates employment, with a thousand more jobs. But it is also a showcase of Italy for many small and micro enterprises, which will be able to increase their exports, and therefore grow on the European and international markets», declared Urso. It is «a turning point for Made in Italy, for that model made up of industrial districts, small and medium-sized enterprises, of those Marches considered an anomaly in the global context, and which instead are becoming a model on which other countries and international investors want to bet», added the minister, announcing that he will shortly present the framework law on made in Italy to the Council of Ministers, which will establish a sovereign wealth fund for national supply chains and the Made in Italy high school.

The time capsule donated by the students

At the laying of the first stone there were also the students of the Iis Galilei of Jesi, who donated a time capsule with letters and podcasts to Amazon: in 10 years it will be opened to see if the promises have been kept, and if in 2033 Jesi will be «a better, more inclusive, sustainable city with more work». By that date, the students hope that there may be more “social cohesion”, space for young people in local politics to “provide advice and opinions from their different point of view”, “eco-sustainable housing accessible to all”. “To become mayor – write the students – Italian citizenship will not be mandatory, but adequate technical and moral training to form people who pursue truth and goodness”.
