The idea of Alkivio comes from the problem that Novacart has. multinational of paper and cardboard for confectionery products, with the immense production waste. What to do with it? The solution is the Alkivio startup, born in 2023 from the collaboration between Novacart and the Italian Institute of Technology: after 6 years of investments and research, the company has decided to support the creation of the startup with 2 million euros. Alkivio, which means “life force” in ancient Greek, is based in Novacart’s headquarters in Garbagnate Monastero (Lecco), where Alkipaper will be produced, which is the material that the startup obtains from paper scraps.

Novacart produces its packaging, the residues end up in the Alkivio production line, which produces Alkipaper from there. In this way, what was a cost for Novacart (and also for the environment) becomes a resource. Leftovers of paper, cardboard and cellulose, which are transformed into a material capable of replacing plastic in various applications. Alkipaper will be usable by companies that produce plastic objects through injection and 3D printing, extrusion, thermoforming and blow molding.

And “without modifying the existing systems”, explains Fulvio Puzone, CEO of Alkivio, who also points out that “with this new biocomposite material we can create objects, containers, furnishings for daily use in various sectors; solutions capable of being long-lasting”. “Innovation and development are the founding elements of every company of the Novacart Group – commented the president of Alkivio Carlo Anghileri – in almost 100 years of history we have achieved a clear leadership in our reference sectors. Alkivio will open up new horizons for us and we are happy to achieve a high-tech, green and quality production, completely Italian”.
