Apricots: «All varieties are to be thrown away», except only in the hills

“Apricots? It can be said that the harvest, which began in early May, is already over. It also applies to the varieties that will gradually ripen until August: in Romagna (with about 5,300 hectares of orchards, including Emilia, ed) now everything has to be thrown away », says Nicola Servadei, vice president of the fruit section of Confagricoltura Emilia -Romagna. What is happening to the fruit «is already visible in these hours: it is subjected to “cracking”, that is to say that the apricot splits, swollen with water. But that fruit that does not open immediately is condemned to rot soon, devoid of sugars». If nothing else, in the rather extensive orchards on the hills, “the trees will be saved, given that the water has gone down without stagnation”.
