They look like each other’s opposite, Marcel Proust (which marks the centenary of his death) e Louis-Ferdinand Céline, for many reasons. But both have transformed the literature of the twentieth century, so perhaps there is something in common, aside from genius. Alessandro Piperno and Valerio Magrelli discuss this in the conversation by Cristina Taglietti in the new issue of «la Lettura», # 567, on newsstands in the App. The two authors are in the bookstore with two essays (Piperno con Timeless Proust
, Mondadori; Magrelli with Proust and Céline. The mind and hateEinaudi Stile libero) and in the dialogue they explore every corner of the uncommon biographies and sensational works of the French masters.

Many authors on issue # 567. It was unfortunate the literary debut of the Portuguese Nobel laureate José Saramago, whose centenary of birth is celebrated in November: the writer Romana Petri tells of the silence that welcomed the first book, The widow (unpublished in Italy and now published by Feltrinelli, arriving in bookstores on 11 October); and Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, an “enthusiastic reader” of Saramago, reflects on the writer’s relationship with atheism and faith. The incipit in preview de The widow
it is available in the «La Lettura» App in the «Themes» section. Other focuses are also available here such as the Theme of the Day dedicated to painters, sculptors and video artists who got behind the camera making films, edited by Vincenzo Trione who writes about the film on “La Lettura” on newsstands and in the App The divine comet in which the artist Mimmo Paladino re-reads the Divine Comedy.

Going back to issue # 567, there is a family of women, in the novel by Miriam Toews
Battle night (Einaudi): Vanni Santoni writes about it. The “heartbeat” museum created in Tokyo by Christian Boltanski is at the heart of the new The island of heartbeats (Piemme) by Laura Imai Messina: the article by Annachiara Sacchi is dedicated to the book; and Imai Messina herself signs her reportage at the anechoic chamber of the University of Ferrara. The story for «the Reading» by Banana Yoshimoto (in the library with The strange stories of Fukiage, Feltrinelli), following in the footsteps of authors and poets among sanctuaries and stairways; with a comment by Giorgio Amitrano. And a novel arrives at the theater: it makes its debut in Naples Mortally wounded, taken from the book Strega award by Raffaele La Capriastaged with the direction of Roberto Andò and the dramaturgy by Emanuele Trevi: Andò and Trevi talk about it in the dialogue curated by Emilia Costantini.
